Kuma Miko [7/10]

“What does a bear know about life in the big city? For Machi Amayadori’s sake, hopefully a lot! The young shrine maiden has spent her whole life in the rural mountains with Natsu, her talking guardian bear. Now, at fourteen, she wants to take a chance and attend high school in the big city. Can Natsu really prepare her for city life? Or will his wacky trials be too much for even Machi to bear?” -Funimation
Kuma Miko is one of those cute anime that get you with good character designs and happy vibes.. Machi and Natsu’s relationship is just darn right adorable. And the fact that Natsu is halfway between pushing Machi out of the nest but also and protecting her. Seeing all the fun events and interactions between Machi and all the villagers just brings a smile to your face. Until the ending.
*Spoiler Alert!*
Eventually, Machi is forced into an Idol Competition by Yoshio, and as terrified of modern society as Machi is, she freaks out. Afraid being called a “country bumpkin” she runs from the competition. In the end Machi gains the courage to get back on stage and with Natsu in the audience she finishes her audition with the Judge’s special award seen at the end. BUTTTTT Then she said she never wants to go to a high school in the city anymore…. That’s where it’s iffy for me. Because I think Machi was finally able to take that first step in conquering her fear of the city. Natsu wants her to stay as her ignorant self and I think that was kind of weird. I mean she’s going to grow up eventually, so you gotta push her out of the nest like you have been the ENTIRE ANIME. Maybe I’m looking to deep into it, and maybe it’s better for Machi to stay in village, what are you thoughts?
