Haifuri [8/10]

“‘Blue Mermaids’ are women who pursue the ocean for their professional occupation. They live by the motto ‘In the sea we live, the sea we protect, and by the sea we go.’ They must excel in their studies, but must also adopt an international mindset. They are the “Elite of the Sea,” and are expected to be knowledgeable of the customs and cultures of other countries as well as their own.” -Anime News Network (ANN)

Haifuri was actually a lot more interesting than I, initially, thought it would be. The animation throughout the entire show was great, making the boat animation all 3D was an excellent choice, it give the boat more realistic movement. The character designs are very diverse, each girl has her own funny little quirks and they aren’t all the same. And the story, my goodness, the story is was way more intense than I had expected! You’d think it’s just about girl who just sail their ship around this ocean and have a good time…NO. First episode and they are forced into a naval battle right off the bat, which causes them to be labeled as rogue ship. They are then targeted by the entire fleet school that they attend, and they must battle their way to safety and explain their innocence. And that’s just the tip of the ice burg, the story continues to deepen even further, but anymore and I’ll spoil things D:. Either way I recommend this one, just because of the unexpected plot and the characters.
