Qualidea Code [4/10]

“The story takes place in a world where people continue their war against the ‘unknown’—the enemy of humanity. Children who have been evacuated to a cold sleep facility during the invasion by the “unknown” several decades ago wake up from their slumber and learn that their bodies developed some supernatural forces. In order to protect the country from the “unknown” emerging from the Tokyo bay gate, the boys and girls wage battles in the defense the cities of Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Chiba.” -Official Site

I came into Qualidea Code thinking it’d be one of the best in the season (being an A-1 Pictures Fanboy), I was wrong. The beginning had a strong start, the music was great the characters were great and the plot was quite a catch. As the show went on, everything started to deteriorate. It started with the artwork and then the story. It’s like they let their newbie team of animators to handle the show after episode 4. The artwork and character design were pretty good, but the further I got into the anime, the flatter and duller the artwork became. I had so many problems with the story (spoiler alert) like, the “death” of Canaria which was so sudden it left me speechless. But emotion were for naught because you find out later that she was actually rescued by the “real” humans and is still alive. The plot twist was interesting but it felt repetitive, with the enemy still being the “unknown”. And was there no name for the enemy besides “unknown”? No one knows who they are or where they came from, not even the writers! The only thing that kept me going were all the great characters (besides Suzaku because, let’s be honest, he’s a prick). Even the sudden plot twists were good but not great, if you know what I mean. All in all don’t do it.
