91 Days [9/10]

“During Prohibition, the law held no power and the mafia ruled the town. The story takes place in Lawless, a town thriving on black market sales of illicitly brewed liquor. Avilio returns to Lawless after some time away, following the murder of his family in a mafia dispute there. One day, Avilio receives a letter from a mysterious sender, prompting him to return to Lawless for revenge. He then infiltrates the Vanetti family, the ones responsible for his family’s murder, and sets about befriending the don’s son, Nero, to set his vengeance in motion. ” – CrunchyRoll

91 Days was, for me, a dark horse in the summer anime season for several reasons. The first was that it’s an original anime and studio was Shuka (the same studio that animated Durarara and Natsume Yuujinchou Go) . So it was interesting to see what they would come up with. The second was the the dark story that keeps you at the edge of your seat up until the  end, and yes that includes the ending! The story is deep and you’ll have to  think about what’s going on. Even I got lost at some point trying to figure what was happening and almost forgot about Avilio’s plot for revenge. As intertwining as the story was I rather enjoyed it, and the ending will leave you speechless, I promise. The third was the OST, which includes the opening and the endings. The opening animation is one of the most articulated openings I have seen. And paired with the wonderful sound of Ling Tosite Sigure (Tokyo Ghoul, Psycho Pass) makes for a powerful opening, that is sure to take your breath away. This one is a must watch if you like intricate stories and mafia type stories.
