Occultic;Nine [Review]

“The “paranormal science” story follows nine idiosyncratic individuals, linked by the “Choujou Kagaku Kirikiri Basara” occult summary blog run by 17-year-old second-year high school student Yuuta Gamon. Little incongruities that occur around these nine eventually lead to a larger, unimaginable event that may alter what is considered common sense in this world.”

If you’ve watched Steins;Gate, Robotic;Notes, or Chaos;Head then look no further! The same writers are back with another mind blowing story to add to their repertoire! Occultic;Nine is much like its predecessors in that it contains many dark twists and turns, so beware!

Story:
Following Occultic;Nine’s plot line can be a bit confusing because of two things. First, the pace of the story is extremely fast! Dialogue comes one after the other, tons of information being thrown at you within minutes. And the other reason is there are little to no “buffer scenes”, or pause between major plot points to let the audience sort out the information. Without these “buffer scenes” the plot points can get confusing, but if you’re able to understand the plot and watch the anime, the story is absolutely fantastic. There are so many subtle hints throughout that points towards the answer and that’s great for capturing the audience’s attention! Occultic;Nine’s story is a new roller coaster ride that keeps you guessing which way it’ll turn and drop next!
Artwork & Animation:
I love the artwork of the show, the character designs are top notch, the gloomy color palette is perfect for the setting, and the gruesome way corpses were drawn made chills run down my spine! It has been a while since an anime had me feeling goose bumps from creepiness, the way that the entities were drawn are gonna give you the creeps!
Character(s):
There is a such an assortment of characters and they’re all so unique that it’s hard to forget about them! Each with their own little secrets that will contribute to the story that is about to unfold. We, of course, have our main cast who are the heroes of the show, but they aren’t the only ones that make the story good, there are strange people such as the pale skinned boy and the demon mask character who will surely make you feel uneasy!!
Sound (OST & Voice Acting):
The seiyuu line up is full of top tier voice actors so, of course, it’s going to sound great, so I no complaints there! The OST has this eerie and dark feeling emanating from each track and that works wonders on setting the mood for the show. OP and ED are both catchy and embodies the themes of Occultic;Nine.
Enjoyment:
I have a love for darker type anime, so Occultic;Nine was just right down my alley and I loved every episode! The tension and laughs that it gave me were genuine and I hope that the 5pd will continue to create more mind twisting stories for us to enjoy!!
Overall: Score 9
As great as the story was the pace was just a little too quick for me and the ending was WAY rushed to the point where it didn’t feel like a conclusion. so after docking a poet for that Occultic;Nine still stand high with a 9/10
