Masamune-kun no Revenge [Review]

“As a child, Masamune Makabe once suffered greatly at the hands of a wealthy and beautiful girl named Aki Adagaki, who nicknamed him “Piggy” due to his chubby appearance. Seeking revenge against his tormentor, Masamune works hard to improve himself and returns as an incredibly handsome, albeit narcissistic, high school student. When he encounters Aki once again, he is prepared to exact vengeance.” MAL Rewrite
It’s been a long time since I watched a high school LoveCom and Masamune-kun no revenge came in at the perfect time!! Adagaki Aki brings back the classic “tsundere” we all know and love but she also has a large appetite!? This unique setting will definitely have you laughing from beginning to end!

Story:
Don’t a expect a typical love com setup where the main character reunites with his long lost childhood friend which then blossoms into a beautiful romance! Masamune-kun no Revenge, redefines the LoveCom genre with a twist! Masamune is here to steal Adagaki’s heart and then crush it, for when they were children Adagaki did the same to him calling him “Pig’s Foot”! The revenge aspect of the show makes it stand out, and gives it a sort of comic relief throughout the show even at very serious romantic parts because, in the end, he’ll dump her…..but will he?

Artwork & Animation:
The artwork stays true to the source material, but they come off a little flatter compared to the manga. The anime could use some more shading or coloration to make the characters stand out a bit more! The backgrounds are so-so nothing sticks out in particular.
Character(s):
Throughout the show, there isn’t that much character development besides Adagaki and Masamune. We learn a lot about those two but everyone else gets lost in the background. I would’ve loved to see more development in Yoshino and Neko because they’re both important characters.
Sound (OST & Voice Acting):
OP and ED are both flashy and catchy and it’s the way I like them! The karaoke scene in the last episode gave some insight on everyone’s singing abilities and the Neko and Adagaki duet was the best thing from the anime! There’s is also a special ED aired only to AT-X (A Japanese television channel) and it’s floating somewhere on Youtube so be sure to check that out too!
Enjoyment:
I loved Masamune-kun no Revenge, it was refreshing to see some comedy amidst the depressing shows this season (Kuzu no Honkai, Youjo Senki, and Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-blooded Orphans etc.).
Overall: Score 9
The show picks up a lot of interest with it takes on the typical LoveCom with its own flair and style which it works pretty well! Masamune-kun no revenge is entertaining but the story lost me interest for a few episodes but picked back up on the final episodes. Definitely, a recommendation from me!
