Well, this one was unexpected. So first there was the announcement that Sword art online would continue the story of Kirito and friends but then right after that Sword Art Online Alternative was announced! The announcement was quite a shock and it piqued my interest real quick! I’ve never heard of Sword Art Online Alternative before then but after doing a little bit of research it turns out that it would be written by Keiichi Sigsawa, not Rei Kawahara (The original author of Sword Art Online). Although the light novel will be written by Keiichi Sigsawa, Rei Kawahara will be there to supervise to keep the light novel consistent with the original story, which was a good choice in my opinion.

Plot (In my own words):

A side story, apart from Kirito and friend’s adventures, that takes place in the infamous GGO, Gun Gale Online. We’ll see GGO through the eyes of LLENN, a popular GGO player known for her incredible speed and of course cuteness. What adventures did LLENN go through during her time in GGO?

Recommendation:

Although there is this stigma around Sword Art Online and how awful it was, all because the animation studio was hasty in animating Sword Art Online as it was still a rough draft for a light novel competition. I think Sword Art Online Alternative won’t have the same issue, given that it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a Sword Art Online anime (thank god it’s not another game) so the series has had a lot of time to create enough material to be animated. It’ll be interesting to see how Sword Art Online Alternative ties back to the original SAO, or if it even has any connection to it at all. Definitely looking forward to how this story will develop and what type of player LLENN turns out to be!
