Shiyan Pin Jiating (First Impression)

I’m gonna be honest, I debated whether or not I actually wanted to start watching this because frankly, there’s been a lot of monster girl anime lately. I thought it was time for a break from the craziness that goes on. But I decided against it and watched the first episode. Shiyan Pin Jiating is originally a Chinese Web Manga and is being animated by KJJ Animation! This will be KJJ Animation’s first full cour anime and it’s exciting to see how the studio will grow from here on out!

Plot (In my own words):

Tanis is the youngest of his siblings and the one that’s the closest to being a normal human being. His parents were so-called “mad scientist” and used their own children to conduct their human experiments. As a result, all of the children, except Tanis, have some sort of mutation that they live with. The quiet but aloof Snow is a werewolf and can turn into a dog or human at will; The kind and energetic Ashisu is half human and half plant who most of the time is covered with plants that her body grows when in the sun; The intimidating and blunt Aisuri is half human and half spider which includes four spider legs that grow from her back; the calm and stern Suishi is gifted with ability of mind-reading, and regular Tanis make up this unique family. Will this crazy family be able to live a normal and happy life in today’s society?

Recommendation:

With the choppy animation and sometimes confusing dialogue, it didn’t present itself as the best anime out there, but that’s not saying that it isn’t entertaining. There’s a charm to it and I couldn’t help myself from smiling by the end of the first episode. It’s easy to see that the story will have some depth to it, as seen in the opening animation. I’m intrigued to see how everything plays out and how they got to where they are now. I really think this has the potential to be really good, but there’s a chance it might fall through. This is a risky one but I’m giving it a chance and I hope you will too!
