Ore ga Suki nano wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai [Review]

“Suzuka Nagami is a beautiful third-year middle school student who has excellent grades and is the student council president. She wrote a novel about a little sister who dotes on her older brother, and the novel wins a light novel award. After they discuss the matter, Yuu is the one who debuts as a proxy light novel author instead of Suzuka, under the pen name Chikai Towano.” -Ore ga Suki wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai (manga)
Story:
What is little sister moe? Some may think that it’s all about “incest wincest”, when that’s not even the closet thing to little sister moe. The little sister moe tropes gets its popularity from their nature to be protected along with the joy of someone relying on and being spoiled by another character. This show is a crash course on little sister moe 101, showing both the bad and good side. Aside of little sister moe, the story itself is an ecchi, comedy and harem, and that makes the story predictable and full of fan service. And while cliché, the story was still entertaining and had me wanting more.
Artwork & Animation:
I’ve seen a lot of anime art both good and bad, but Ore ga Suki wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai has one of the worst art and animation that I’ve seen to date. Everything from uneven eyes to disproportionate body parts and awkward body movement. The last episode’s art was the best out of all the episodes but was still extremely rough. The opening animation was much better than the overall show’s albeit it was simple, but it works very well.
Character(s):
While the art and animation weren’t the best, I still think the core character designs are very nice along with each of their backstories. The character tropes are familiar yet there’s a slight twist that makes them feel fresh again.
Sound (OST & Voice Acting):
I, normally, don’t have any problems with the voice acting but throughout Ore ga Suki nano wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai the voice acting sounded a bit stiff, uncomfortable almost. As for the soundtrack, it’s not a bad soundtrack. It’s your typical comedy anime soundtrack featuring some slow piano pieces for the more intimate parts, simple string and horns for light comedic scenes, and some guitar strums here and there to give the overall show a little bit more warmth.
Enjoyment:
I’ve read a lot of backlash on this show and I can see where they’re coming from. But honestly, I thought the show was very enjoyable, despite the terrible artwork.
Overall: Score 7
Ore ga Suki wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai wasn’t the best show of the season (art-wise it definitely wasn’t) but the story is still interesting to see, especially if you enjoy little sister type characters. This anime will teach you the true meaning of little sister moe and not that “incest wincest” garbage.
Best Girl: Minazuki, Sakura
A true little sister but in a more aggressive sense. Sakura’s sporadic personality and little sister characteristics are a dangerous duo indeed. As one of the more collected characters in the show, Sakura easily takes the spot for best girl.
