Tenshi no 3P! [Review]

“Kyou Nukui is a high school student who tends to skip school due to a trauma in his past. Kyou secretly creates songs using vocal song synthesis software as his hobby. Three girls who just entered fifth grade — the crybaby Jun “Jun-tan” Gotou, the strong-willed Nozomi “Zomi” Momijidani, and the somewhat sleepy Sora “Kuu” Kaneshiro who takes life at her own pace — email Kyou. These three girls, who were raised together like sisters since childhood, want Kyou to help them break into music.” -ANN
Story:
I’m a sucker for girl bands in general so Tenshi no 3P! Seemed like a good anime to get into. While the premise and the concept were compelling, the execution of the story elements left much to be desired. The story dynamics lacks the exaggeration that it needed to keep the story interesting. There are some unexpected problems that happen before a show, or some unneeded fan service, that become bland after the second time.
Artwork & Animation:
The artwork and animation for Tenshi no 3P! were rough, to say the least. There are lot of poor animation sequences and a lot of sloppy scenes throughout the show. The performances were much better as they used a mix of both traditional 2D animation and CGI. The downside to doing that, however, is the sudden drop in frame rate for character movement, making it very apparent on when they would switch between the two animation styles. Another problem was that the 2D animations were inaccurate during performances, while the CGI was accurate but was visually weird.
Character(s):
While there is character development in the show, it lacks any sort of impact. Yes, the girls become more mature and grow as musicians, and Kyou overcomes his anxiety in going to school, but that’s expected given the synopsis. They don’t grow outside of the expected areas and that makes for a boring cast of characters.
Sound (OST & Voice Acting):
While the soundtrack, in general, doesn’t stand out from the crowd. The songs that are composed and performed by the groups in the show are actually quite good! If anything, please check out the songs that are performed in the show as they are well composed and I wouldn’t mind even buying an album!
Enjoyment:
I did enjoy the beginning as the instruments were drawn quite well and the great composition of the songs performed by the characters. I lost interest as these repetitive scenarios and the forced fan service kept occurring over and over again.
Overall: Score
5
With a weak storyline and some rough animations, Tenshi no 3P! comes together through its soundtrack, specifically the songs that are performed in the show.
Best Girl: Toriumi Sakura
Logically, this is the only answer I could have, BUT I actually did enjoy seeing Sakura get embarrassed around Kou and her tomboyish nature along with her style makes for a great combo!
