When he wakes two thousand years later, though, he finds the world has become too peaceful–his descendants have grown weak and magic is in serious decline. Intending to reclaim his rightful place, he enrolls in Demon King Academy, where he finds that his magical power is off the charts. Literally. And because they can’t measure his power, the faculty and other students regard Anos as a misfit. First Impression:

You know…I didn’t exactly plan on watching this show but after watching the Aniplex Online Fest panel (This panel will only be available for a few days so watch if you can! 7-11-20) about this show, I couldn’t help but get interested and watching it anyway. Now I’m very excited to get into it! And as a big fan of Tatsuhisa Suzuki, I can’t believe I let this one slip by…anyway let’s get right into it!

And right off the bat, we’re presented with the first heroine and the parents of Anos (someone, stop me from making Anos’ mother best girl LOL). The first few minutes of the shows are used to construct the plot of the show. There’s a European aesthetic that comes with the show and doesn’t come as too much of a surprise as Maou (Demon Lords) are often depicted living in large Gothic Castles.

Anos’ character is overpowering and sure, that’s to be expected as the reincarnated Demon Lord. However; there’s an overpowered protagonist and then there’s a Demon Lord. I hope the screenshots above help explain just exactly how powerful Anos is! It’s satisfying to see Anos overwhelm the “powerful” nobles that look down on others. Zepes (the poor soul in the pictures above) would later be killed, reincarnated, and killed again until he admitted defeat.

SERIOUSLY, SOMEONE STOP ME.

What I do enjoy about Anos’ characters is that there is a warmth to his ruthlessness. While it may not come off as nice or funny Anos tries to lighten the mood though they usually fall flat (he likes to point out that the jokes were a hit 2,000 years ago LOL). It’s going to be interesting to see the daily life of Anos and Misha as they get through classes together. From the glimpses of various characters at the beginning of the show, I have a feeling that there’s going to be a bigger plotline that will unravel as we get deeper into the show.

Recommendation:

YES

This is one of those shows that don’t stick out from the other shows in the season but end up being a good show regardless, at least that’s what my gut tells me. The star-studded list of voice actors on this show should be enticing enough to at least give it a try. I rather enjoyed the brutality that Anos dishes out, so I’m curious as to how the story will develop!
