Sekai Saikou no Ansatsusha, Isekai Kizoku ni Tensei suru
  • Source Material: Light novel
  • Studio: SILVER LINK., Studio Palette
  • Genre: Action, Fantasy
  • Synopsis: “The greatest assassin on Earth knew only how to live as a tool for his employers—until they stopped letting him live. Reborn by the grace of a goddess into a world of swords and sorcery, he’s offered a chance to do things differently this time around, but there’s a catch…He has to eliminate a super-powerful hero who will bring about the end of the world unless he is stopped. Now known as Lugh Tuatha Dé, the master assassin certainly has his hands full, particularly because of all the beautiful girls who constantly surround him. Lugh may have been an incomparable killer, but how will he fare against foes with powerful magic?” -Yen Press

First Impression:

I love Isekai shows but the concept for this one really got my attention. A skilled assassin is reincarnated into a world of swords and sorcery, assigned to kill…the hero!? There seems to be a darker tone that surrounds the story…but just how dark are we getting? Let’s dive in!

Help, I have fallen (for the character designs) and can’t get up! I just love the coloring and shading, though I’m not a huge fan of the magic artillery design…that’s going to take some getting used to. The story opens up with a pretty dark setting, as our group of assassins make their move in making a Countess, who’s running an illegal slave auction, “disappear”. But of course, you can’t take out human scum without a looking nice right?

Speaking of looking nice…Lugh, our main protagonist, went through quite a change! I was surprised that he didn’t look that different from his “isekai” version, as I like to call it. The later half of the episode goes into detail about Lugh’s previous life as the world’s best assassin and in particular, his last mission before retiring and becoming an assassination instructor.

I laughed out loud at this scene, I mean…Allen Smith DOES sound like someone who’d shoot “lame-ass” movies lol. This scene is really funny out of context but I digress. There seems to be a lot of information and character development being thrown around but not really sure where this is headed, other than simply showing off Lugh’s experience in the assassination world.

Add this goddess to the “smug goddesses” list, her demeanor brings forth a more playful ruler rather than a benevolent one. Will this goddess play a bigger role in the story will she mostly stick to the background and observe as Lugh carries his mission? And just why does she want the hero dead? Doesn’t the hero usually save the world? So many questions and no answers!

Recommendation:

YES

There wasn’t a lot happening in this first episode, other than introductions and some backstory. The story will really kick off on the next episode. The great character designs, and darker “isekai’d assassin” plot all make for an interesting concept. How well this concept is executed is another story. That being said, I have a gut feeling that this will be a fun a watch, I’d give this one the three episode rule if you’re interested!
