If the infamous name “God Eater” hasn’t already hooked you into watching this series I’m sure looking up a clip of the show and seeing the artwork and animation should get your attention! Normally “Game to Anime” adaption are awful because they don’t really stay true to the story of the game. In God Eater (game) it’s a “create your own” main character so for the adaptation it’s up to interpretation. In this instance it’s Lenka Utsugi who, I have to admit,  is a very well done character. Not only does he look good (art-wise), he’s also a very developed character, his dark backstory is what builds his opinions on fenrir and it’s customs. We see Fenrir from Lenka’s point of view, who wasn’t living inside of fenrir but rather outside of the walls where the dangerous Aragami prey on the weak. This new perspective is refreshing to the God Eater story that the gamers know so well. Other than some changes to the story the anime sticks to the game pretty closely, which leads me to the other subject, artwork and animation. God Eater is a PSP game that uses 3D animation for most of the game. ufotable (animation company) stays true to this style with a twist. The 2D characters have a sort of shading that give this 3D feel. The monsters stay 3D animated (which is understandable) but with the combination of this 2D/3D look the two mix into a beautiful style that is unique to the series. Each and every episode of God Eater will keep you wanting more (I promise), and the animation is smooth as butter, there’s no reason not to watch the series. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go grab my PSP enjoy some God Eater before the reboots come to PS Vita and PS4.
