Pastel Memories (First Impression)
“The story takes place in a future Akihabara where otaku culture has declined. Players play as a shopkeeper of an otaku shop. Together with the heroines who are in fact otaku girls, the shopkeeper starts helping people claim their lost otaku memories back.” -QooApp
I may have gotten overly excited with Pastel Memories because now that I got the chance to see the first episode…it’s not as compelling as I thought it would be. Honestly, it’s got an Akiba’s Trip type of vibe and that anime ended up being “okay”, not great or bad but just alright. So I’m afraid Pastel Memories might end up the same way, but I could be wrong! At its core, Pastel Memories focuses on Otaku Culture and these girls are trying to preserve it by fighting viruses that show up in these anime worlds. It hints at going into the world of the anime to eradicate the viruses (and from the episode preview episode 2 might feature Is the Order a Rabbit? aka Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu Ka? or something similar) so that’ll be interesting to see.
At least for this episode, Pastel Memories really doesn’t have anything eye-catching nor a story worth spending time on. It’s going to reference a lot of popular anime, which could be the eye-catching factor, but that’s going to depend on the execution. And from what I’ve seen I have a feeling it will be decent enough to be enjoyable but not noteworthy.
