First Impression:
Love Live is back with a new group! The Nijigasaki group is here to take the spotlight with their own unique individuality and story! Those that are familiar with the mobile game Love Live! All Stars! should already be familiar with the group and if you don’t know, well you will very soon!

BUT FIRST, can we take a second a appreciate the beautiful and breath-taking background art for this show? The architecture, the composition, the coloring and detail! I just love and appreciate the aesthetic throughout the show. If they put this much effort into the backgrounds…think about what the live performances will be!

You can’t find a bad angle for Setsuna, change my mind. And already we get a little taste of the performances that we’ll be seeing throughout the show. Love Live is know to implement both 2D and CGI animation into their performance scenes and it blows me away every. single. time!
Fun fact: this stage that Setsuna is performing on, is a real location and was actually one of first stages that Nijigasaki School Idol Club performed in-person! This was where they announced and demonstrated their “response and call” to the audience (some idol performance terms…idols get kinda technical when you see them perform but it’s so much fun!). This was a very special spot for the group!
This time around the cast doesn’t only include a group but also another character by the name of Takasaki Yuu! She acts in the place of the “player” from Love Live! All Stars. It’ll be interesting to see how closely the anime will follow the games story. From the first episode alone, there are some deviations such as Ayumu’s motivation to join the club as well as the interactions with each of the characters, while still keeping true to the key elements of the story like hearing the bad news from the student council president. It still carried the essence of the story but in a varied way, which will be welcoming to both players of the game and interested newcomers!
And of course we can’t end without seeing the wonderful character designs for the anime of this lovely group! I feel like I put enough Setsuna screen caps above so I’ll keep her out of this one lol.
Recommendation:
YES
Love Live has always been an idol anime that delivers when it comes to performance animation as well as an impactful story. Who knows maybe you’ll find a love for idols just like Yuu did? I think Love Live is one of those shows that you just have to watch at least once to get the experience the idol culture!
