- Genres: Slice of Life, Comedy, Romance, School, Shounen
- Synopsis: “Although admired at school for her amiability and academic prowess, high school student Kyouko Hori has been hiding another side of her. With her parents often away from home due to work, Hori has to look after her younger brother and do the housework, leaving no chance to socialize away from school. Meanwhile, Izumi Miyamura is seen as a brooding, glasses-wearing otaku. However, in reality, he is a gentle person inept at studying. Furthermore, he has nine piercings hidden behind his long hair and a tattoo along his back and left shoulder. By sheer chance, Hori and Miyamura cross paths outside of school—neither looking as the other expects. These seemingly polar opposites become friends, sharing with each other a side they have never shown to anyone else.

Horimiya has had my attention for quite some time now as the fans of the manga were quite vocal about the anticipation for the anime! And from what I can see on paper, the story and art look like it’ll be something to look forward to! I’m too excited, let’s just dive in!

This opening took me a moment to fully understand (and I’m not even sure if I understood correctly) but I love the concept behind it. This square in the center of the screen is this focal point the everything returns to, but when the focal point breaks the screen is split into multiple boxes or “windows” you could say that show you a different perspective or time. The idea that you perceive what is shown within the window and if that’s the only window you look through, that would be the only thing you’d see, which kinda plays off of our characters Hori and Miyamura having this sides that no one else sees because they’re only looking through one “window”. I don’t that just seemed really interesting and the opening really grabbed my attention! What do you think the symbolism means in the opening?
Cloverworks out here trying to steal everyone’s hearts with this immaculate animation and composition! The details are stunning and gives us a good chunk of fanservice as well as Miyamura’s personality and athleticism! And let’s all appreciate the sun’s soft glow in this entire scene!
I’ve seen my far share of RomComs but the down to earth and wholesome relationship that Hori and Miyamura share is something special. Miyamura’s dialogue isn’t seducing or dense but simply respectful and appreciative of his and Hori’s companionship as two people who share a secret. It’s a good dynamic that feels a bit more realistic that what RomComs typically shoot for. I CANNOT WAIT to see where the story takes us because I absolutely love all of the characters!!!
Do I smell a bromance blooming?!
Recommendation:
YES
If you aren’t a fan of romantic comedies…this will be the show that changes your mind! There are so many good things in this show in just the first episode alone. The down to Earth and wholesome character development and incredible artwork and animation! You won’t want to miss this one!
