- Source: Manga
- Genres: Slice of Life, Comedy, Romance, School, Shounen
- Synopsis: “After harboring an unrequited love for years, Naoya Mukai finally gets to date his childhood friend, Saki Saki. However, just as he tries to commit himself to this relationship, he receives an abrupt confession from Nagisa Minase. At first, Naoya tries to reject her but is soon overcome by feelings of not wanting to hurt Nagisa. Trying to avoid betraying his girlfriend’s trust in him, Naoya thinks up a “solution” to make both girls happy—two-timing. Naturally, Saki rebuffs this idea, but through Naoya’s and Nagisa’s persistence, she reluctantly submits. With this, a three-way affair begins between Naoya, his girlfriend, and his “other” girlfriend, as they develop a relationship that deviates from the social norm.” -MAL Rewrite
While the synopsis is questionable at best, I figured I’d give this one a shot since the character designs are REALLY NICE. Let’s dive in!
Naoya…kinda scares me lol. This is the definition of a guy that’s way too clingy! Enoki Junya does TOO good of a job at portraying Naoya’s honest yet overbearing personality. While the overdramatic Naoya is entertaining, I get the feeling I’ll be spending more time being annoyed than laughing at these ridiculous situations.
SHE DESERVES THE WHOLE WORLD! Ahem, sorry I didn’t mean to get excited. Nagisa is such an earnest character and it’s…hard to say no…! I get it how Naoya can’t say no either! I’m conflicted! Though, aside from Nagisa’s center image…the art is pretty questionable, especially the one where’s she’s doing jump rope…what is that?
Speaking of “what is that”, what are these frames? The character designs are fantastic but some of the scenes that don’t feature close up on characters drop in quality to the point that they looks like background characters. Kinda makes we worried about the rest of the show. Will the quality improve over time? Let’s hope so!
Despite the terrible images above the show still does a great job at highlighting the main characters of the show, in this case Saki and Nagisa. The art is crisp, though the animation is pretty minimal so not much to see other than the nice coloring.
Naoya’s overly honest personality creates quite a predicament for the group, though I think it’s more selfish of him than anything. I’m already getting Koi to Uso vibes and I’m not a fan of his character. We still don’t why Nagisa actually likes Naoya either, as she gives quite ambiguous answers!
The rest of this first impression is a Saki appreciation post, enjoy!
Weighing the pros and cons to this show, there’s just so many more cons and I can’t, in good conscious, recommend this show. It may be able to redeem itself later as the story develops but at this point it’s kind of a lost cause for me (besides the character designs lol). If you want to support the voice actors and the love the characters, then bear with the ridiculous story line (don’t worry I’ll be there with you!). If not, then you can pass this one.
